Just like Jamie said, sometimes it can be tough to apologize without seeming desperate... but one of the best things you can do to prevent that is to NOT apologize for everything under the sun! I think that is where most people make their mistake. If you start over-apologizing or apologizing for things you didn't do in an effort to smooth things over, your ex may lose respect for you. On the other hand, a sincere apology tells them that you accept responsibility for your part. And that can really open up the channels of communication.
